King of the Hill 2 Devens MA 4/17/10
It was a cloudy showered filled cold day for the King of the Hill 2 tournament. I expected that since I paid to play that it would be sunny and about seventy but wet and 42 degrees was what I got. Sheeeeesh!
The problem for me in the rain and cold is that I can't throw a drive to save my life, or my game in this case. In the two rounds I think I counted being on the fairway after my tee shot just eight times. This made playing well really difficult. I was constantly making shots to try to par instead of having any chances at birdies.
So after the first rainy round I had a 62 which is one over my average on the course. You hope that on tournament day you play better than average but on this day it was not to be. I was well down the list of AM 1 competitors. I played up a division in this one hoping that with a home course advantage and some good play I could earn more PDGA points towards qualifying for world next year. Not snecessarily a mistake as my 13th place finished earned me about the same amount of points as I would have gotten if I played Am Masters. I would have finished 2nd in that division. Still I was a bit disappointed at playing so middle of the road. I started the second round with all the tough holes and nine holes into the round I was +7, I recovered the rest of the way and finished the second round with a 60.
The tournament was well run by Marcy Borelli and John. The theme this year was the King of Pop, Michael Jackson and they gave away some MJ gear to those who finished first and second. The food from the Devens Grill for lunch was excellent as always. I enjoyed the friends I saw and hung with and look forward to my next weekend of discgolf the Flatrock surprise Sunday the 25th in Athol MA.
