Maple Hill Open V - 5/23/10

The weather was excellent for the Maple Hill event this year; sunny for the most part with temps in the 70s. Playing Advance Masters in this NEFA event I only had three other competitors for the day. Playing the red course first J.C. Vermynck shot a blistering round of 54, while I shot a 56 with a five on hole 18. Ken Dawson was also in play at this point with a respectable 58. The course is challenging but there are a bunch of birdie opportunities on the Red course. You just have to limit mistakes on your drives because there is not much room for recovery so you can lose throws that way.
In the second round we played the white course which is harder but nothing compared to the blues played by most of the field. I was solid early and J.C. and Ken had some problems, so there was a lead for me to control as we went through the course. Shooting a 61 I cruised to a seven shot win. Still even better than that was the really great group of guys. We played two round on a tough course and stayed really relaxed the whole time. It made the play really enjoyable. Even better was the funny money given out at the end. Although not really necessary it is a real treat to actually win something for playing well.
MM1 1 Ed Hovestadt 56 61 - 117
MM1 2 J.C. Vermynck 54 70 - 124
MM1 3 Ken Dawson 58 68 - 126
MM1 4 Brian "BUC" Kozicki 65 73 - 138

At the end of the day a bunch of us, including the two Bill Dunnes, Mike Siamond, Daniel Marcus and myself played seven of the Blue course holes for fun. It was the end of the day,sun slowly heading down in the west, warm and relaxing. Very nice quality time with some really good guys. I really enjoyed that, no pressure or competition just playing some holes.
