Waveny Open Sunday 6/27/10 New Canaan CT
I got back in from Maryland at 7:30 Saturday night, traveled home and showered before hitting the sack for my 4am wake up. Then the three hour drive on Sunday morning to Waveny Park in New Canaan CT. Tim Smith has work very hard to get a 12 hole course into the woods below the field part of the park and with 6 temporary holes in a just cut field we were to have 2 rounds of 18 hole disc golf. This was both a PDGA event and a NEFA 2x event. I played in the pro masters division figuring I could challenge myself an maybe be someone. Generally this has been my experience playing pro. Still I have been playing pretty well for a month or so and was hoping to at least stay withing a dozen throws of the leaders. I quickly walked the course latching onto Steve and Leslie Brinster as they walked the course and threw some drives. I hope I did not cramp their style but it was really useful to watch a couple real pros practice drives on the course.
In the first round we played the white short course and I have to say I left a few shots out there. Tough little wooded shots sometimes go unexpected places and by the end I had kept the score at 59 which rated as a 914 round, lower than my 925 rating but I felt pretty good. It was hot and sunny but I felt pretty good and did some disc fetching in the lunch break contests to stay warmed up for the second round. It seemed to work as the bounces on the long blue course were much more forgiving to me and I shot a 58 on the long course at a 977 rated round. I moved up from tied for last in the six man field to tied for third. Although I refused the money I was headed home by 5:30 pm and feeling good about the day. Results of the Waveny Open
