King of the Hill
With some sun but mostly an overcast sky, we played the King of the Hill tournament at Devens disc golf. Full at 72 players I as always played Advanced Masters and started on hole one. I had been playing poorly at Devens during wednesday night league but felt pretty good coming into the day. During the weeks leading into the tourney I was in the mid sixties and hoped with a proper head I could get to low 60s. Most of my injuries were in decent shape, my head was in a good space. I wasn't expecting much in this my second event of the year. I played well in the mixed group and I love that. I got to play with Tim Walsh who did not have a great day but gave me something to try to duplicate. I shot well in the first round with a sparkling 57. This is one off my best at this course. I had my regular problems at holes 7, 16 and 18 but mostly I played well. I was tied for first with James Beaulieu, one ahead of Jim Bobka and 2 over Paul Sullivan and Alan Rosa.
To start the second round at the top of the first card was a real treat. More of a treat was my first shot on round two. We started on hole 10 a long downhill shot with scattered trees down the slope. Using my Latitude 64 Medius I took the hyzer route and ACED the hole NO CHAINS!! I use this disc becuase the dome of it and bendability sort of knocks it to the ground when it hits trees and with a downhill shot I did not want to shoot off in an unwanted direction. No worries though since it was freakin perfect. We went back and forth on the top card trading the lead. As we got to the end of the second round it was Bobka and his great round that took the win. James tok second and I was two back in third. Sully playing on the second card played well an took fourth 4 back.
Great tourney and I really enjoyed playing with James and Alan again and Bobka for the first time. It is a great thing about our division, so many great sports and friendly people.
